Retailing via 40,000 sq. ft. on three floors, with additionally some 20,000 sq. ft. of storage and administration space, the Crawley outlet operated by T J Hughes is a significant part of the retail facilities in the area. Within a single week, Link 51 was able to remove the existing storage system and replace it with a new purpose-designed facility, all without interrupting the ongoing trading within the busy store. Paul Bate is Store Development Project Manager at the company's Liverpool headquarters and explains the key advantages arising from the Link 51 latest installation undertaken by the company for T J Hughes -
"We needed to maximise capacity within the existing main store room and two adjacent areas dedicated to lingerie and shoe storage," he says, "and Link 51's designers worked hand-in-hand with our own team to optimise the layout. This has taken into account a series of roof support columns and, importantly, has avoided the need to relocate the lighting system.
"The decision to opt for solid sides and mesh backs to the shelving has also virtually eliminated the risk of products becoming dislodged from their location positions which has been a major help to both store room tidiness and operational efficiency," he continues.
Link 51's Stormor product is used at the site for storing boxes in a wide range of dimensions, from those containing Christmas crackers to 6-piece garden furniture sets, which highlights one of its key benefits - inherent versatility. The design not only offers a series of optional fittings but will also allow T J Hughes to alter the layout simply should fashion or sale requirements dictate in the future. Alongside, the purpose-designed Stockrax provides three levels of hanging rails on a series of island installations with additional perimeter hanging around the edge of the room.
"Again, overall tidiness is enhanced which, apart from helping with the day-to-day running, also plays an important part in health and safety considerations," adds Paul Bate.
"With its emphasis on value for money and discount prices of well-established names, T J Hughes' overall operation is an extremely active and successful one," comments Link 51's spokesperson, Emma Bloomer, Marketing Manager. "The need, therefore, to maximise storage capacity whilst maximising the efficiency of handling and retrieval procedures were all paramount at the Crawley site. We believe the selection of our Stormor and Stockrax products are the ideal solution to the company's specific requirements and we are delighted to continue to be involved in their ongoing development programme," she concludes.
